Arbitrageur

Not that I'd touch them now, but check out their MBP II portfolio. This was back when BSMB wasn't a two-bit shop. The consumer/retail portfolio is quite impressive:
CamelBak, Seven Jeans (a deal I had a hand in - and they time that investment perfectly with the rise of Seven's popularity) and Stuart Weitzman.

@ Arbitrageur

Huge fan of camelbak's, especially useful for keeping jack & coke in a convenient position to enjoy on the chairlift.

Also, I've just realized. The BSMB guys musta been the only ones to see the proverbial writing on the wall, and thus went on a binge-buying spree of Caribbean firms. This allowed them to rationalize (insofar as such things were necessary @ BSC) the 200+ days/year of diligence they spent in St. Thomas, etc.

Brilliant plan, now that I think about it.

Loans

Great post, some very interesting points to think about.
